Prescription blue light glasses: options and prices
If you already wear glasses, putting another pair on top for the screen is not an option. Neither is taking yours off to work.
The solution is prescription blue light glasses: a single frame with your prescription that also filters the high-energy light from screens. These are the options.
Quick answer
If you wear glasses, the most comfortable option is a single frame with your prescription and filtering of blue (380-500 nm) and green (500-590 nm) light. Reticare offers prescription Balance (€469, made to your exact prescription) and Balance reading glasses with fixed diopters (€269) for close-up vision.
Blue light glasses with a prescription: the options
| Option | Who it is for | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Prescription Balance | Short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism: your exact prescription | €469 |
| Balance reading glasses | You only need help with close-up vision | €269 |
| Non-prescription Balance | You don’t need a prescription or you wear contact lenses | €229 |
How prescription blue light glasses work
In regular glasses, the "blue filter" is usually an anti-reflective coating added to the outside of the lens. It reflects a small part of blue light and little else.
In prescription Balance, selective filtering is part of the lens. It acts on blue light (380-500 nm) and green light (500-590 nm), the two highest-energy bands emitted by LED screens. It is a patented technology, the result of more than 20 years of research by the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), with Dr. Celia Sánchez-Ramos and her team.
Reading glasses with blue light filtering
From around 40-45, focusing up close gets harder. If that's you and you read a lot on your phone or computer, Balance reading glasses give you the diopters you need and the same blue and green light filtering.
What if I wear contact lenses?
Contact lenses help you see clearly but don't filter screen light. You can combine them with non-prescription Balance.
How to order your prescription glasses
- Have your current prescription from your optician or ophthalmologist to hand.
- Choose the Essential lens (almost transparent) or Pro (more filtering).
- Place your order on the product page and enter your prescription.
Frequently asked questions
Can blue light filtering be added to prescription glasses?
A coating can be added to glasses you already own, but it is usually an anti-reflective layer that does little. With prescription Balance, the selective filtering is part of the lens itself, made to your prescription.
How much do prescription blue light glasses cost?
Prescription Balance cost €469 including your prescription. If you only need close-up vision, the reading glasses with fixed diopters cost €269.
What do I need to order prescription glasses?
Your current prescription from your optician or ophthalmologist. The lens is made from that data.
Do prescription glasses come with Essential and Pro lenses?
Yes. You can choose the Essential lens, almost transparent, or Pro, with more filtering.
